This course provides an overview of non-adversarial dispute resolution methods, the background to disputes, their nature, common root causes and consequences of failing to resolve disputes.

After studying this course, you should be able to:-

1. Examine the background to disputes, including motivating factors of individuals and organisations, the preconceptions about roles, insights into project success or failure, the roots of contractual dispute, and finally the preservation of good business relations.
2. Determine the nature of construction disputes, looking at enforceable promises, technical matters, legal matters, entitlement and magnitude, and the role of the contract administrator.
