An Introduction to Design and Build Contracts (Part 1)

An Introduction to Design and Build Contracts (Part 1)

The aim of this course is to provide an overview of the Design and Build procurement method and how the separation of design from construction in the building industry has, for a long time, been the source of many problems. Design and build contracts are where the main contractor is appointed to design and construct the works, as opposed to a traditional contract, where the client appoints consultants to design the works and then a contractor is appointed to construct the works. Design and build can be seen as giving a single point of responsibility for delivering the entire project.

After studying this course, you should be able to:-

1. Explain the procurement method called Design-Build, looking in particular at its background.
2. Detail the features of a Design-build contract and the employer's requirements, and contractor' proposals, Price, Roles and responsibilities.
