Part 1: What are Contractual Entitlements? (Free)

The aim of this course is to provide an overview of the types of entitlement that may arise under a contract and the obligations and liabilities which flow therefrom.

After studying this course, you should be able to:

  1. Explain how a contract is made,
  2. Understand what a contractual entitlement is,
  3. Identify the types of entitlements that arise,
  4. Understand how one party’s entitlement impacts the other party

Part 2: Notices and Records (Free)

The aim of this course is to understand the importance of notices, consider the different types of notices, and the role proper records have in establishing a contractual entitlement. 

After studying this course, you should be able to:

  1. Identify the contractual requirements for notices
  2. Discuss the methods of communication and their effectiveness
  3. Consider whether emails are proper methods of communication
  4. Understand the different types of records required by the contract and how they act as evidence of a contractual entitlement.

Part 3: Variations (Free)

The aim of this course is to provide a general overview of contractual provisions surrounding variations or changes.

After studying this course, you should be able to:

  1. Define a variation
  2. Explain the contractual mechanisms that deal with variations
  3. Understand how variations are valued/

Part 4: Extension of Time

The aim of this course is to provide a general overview of contractual provisions surrounding time and extension of time.

After studying this course, you should be able to:

  1. Identify the contractual start and end dates and their importance
  2. Define ‘completion’
  3. Generally, understand which delaying events would give rise to an extension of time
  4. Understand the procedures relating to extension of time and the methods of delay analysis.

Part 5: Loss and Expense

The aim of this course is to provide a general overview of contractual provisions surrounding loss and expense

After studying this course, you should be able to:

  1. Define loss and expense
  2. Identify the contractual provisions surrounding loss and expense
  3. Understand how loss and expense can be calculated.

Part 6: Dispute Resolution

The aim of this course is to provide an overview of the various dispute resolution processes available to the parties to a contract.

After studying this course, you should be able to:

  1. Identify when a dispute has arisen
  2. Explain the typical dispute resolution processes available to the parties under a contract
  3. Consider how the matters discussed in previous courses can be resolved by dispute resolution.
