An Overview of Time (Part 1) Key Legal Concepts and Rights Governing Time

The aim of this course is to explore the main areas of potential risk relating to time and progress on construction contracts and how they are dealt with under standard forms of contract, such as JCT, NEC and FIDIC. This course provides example relating to commencement, possession of the site and how the works are planned and performed.

After studying this course, you should be able to:-

1. Outline why time is a primary objective for most clients, and a criterion by which the success of a project can be judged
2. Detail the legal issues relevant to commencement, in particular the possession of the site and date for possession and provide examples of how they are dealt with under common forms of contract.
3. Explain how the contractor has discretion as to how the work is planned and performed provided only that it is completed on time, and provide example of case law and contract clauses.
