The aim of this 6 part course is to provide an informative and comprehensive understanding and commercial awareness of the different construction contracts and areas of contractual effects on purposes, tendering, payments, general provisions, adjudication and the associated documentation
Part 1: The Contract
Covering the essential elements, the differences between a letter of intent and a contract, and the purposes of subcontracts and collateral warranties
Part 2: Types of construction contracts and tendering
Explains different types of construction contract and how they affect the tendering process including differences between lump sum, cost plus and target cost contracts, single and two stage tendering, early contractor involvement and BIM, the difference between traditional & design & build contracts and how a tender is put together
Part 3: Documents that form the contract and payment
Understand the types of documents that make up the contract and an overview of payment provisions under contract and under the HGCRA
Part 4: General provisions of a contract (part 1)
The aim of this course is to understand various provisions in a typical construction contract including Design, subcontracting, notices & reporting and Changes or Variations
Part 5: General provisions of a contract (part 2)
Covering how contracts deal with the various provisions including, Time, Loss & Expense and Claims in general
Part 6: General provisions of a contract (part 3) and construction adjudication
This final course covers the provisions in a typical construction contract and provides an overview of construction adjudication including understanding how contracts deal with Defective work and Termination, and how the adjudication provisions under the HGCRA operate
